Passing of the American Muscle?

Although there is a great deal of buzz out there regarding international made cars, in my feeling, they simply do not contain the same soul as classic American cars. Yes, there are a good lot of Japanese autos that can go fast, and last longer than most American automobiles, but none of them have the elegance and beauty of a Mustang or a corvette. These American muscle cars are the stuff that the fantasies of generations were shaped by, with their top speed, their power, their luxuriousness, and their hot styling. Long before the times of the small and efficient rice burners, road hogging, petrol guzzling American automobiles really dominated the whole world, as the American empire did.

Naturally, in several ways those years are gone, and I guess that it is true that they won't come again. Chrysler has been taken over by Daimler Benz, and the other American auto companies do much of their manufacturing over seas that it's become a real challenge to even imagine their cars as American. Sure, they are American corporations in the sense that they started out here, but in fact they are today multi-national corporations which have no feel of domestic dedication at all, and are merely in it to get cash. Nonetheless, despite the cut backs and the layoffs, and what not, some of the spirit of American automobiles still remains on the highways nowadays.

Look about you next time you get about, and you are certain to see a couple of older cars. However, they are unfortunately going by the wayside, and being replaced with modern-day knock offs of the older autos. Take a look at the current Camaro, Mustang, Charger each of which were recently been revamped by their manufacturers in order to add additional "classic styling" to them. Sure they seem good, but it's simply not the same as experiencing a authentic example of American steel to make the tires squeal and not plea for forgiveness.

In my opinion, if you are a fan of American muscle automobiles, you should not purchase the pc controlled, excessively sleek autos of today, but purchase one of the more stylish cars of yesterday. The fifties, and to some extent, the sixties were where it was at in terms of American cars was concerned. That was the time of the very strong steel chassis that could keep together like nobody's business, of the large, stout solid American autos that would stand up to years and years of abuse. That was a long time before the travesty of uni-body manufacturing kicked back in, when men were men, and American cars were automobiles. Maybe those days are past, but the automobiles from those days – at least many of them – are still on the road today, and several of them can be purchased by any reasonably well off collectors. There's nothing better than the roaring of an old, bored out v-8 engine below the hood of a older American cars, and that is no lie.
